Building a Maternity Wardrobe {Atlanta Maternity Photographer}

August 31, 2015

I don’t know about you, but for both of my pregnancies, I never really felt that beautiful when photos were being taken.  So, when it came time to do a maternity session for myself, this was something I second guessed.  When I was pregnant with my 1st baby,  which was before I started my photography business/journey, I did not research what to wear for my maternity session.  I just simply asked my photographer when she arrived at my house for the session for some suggestions.  She told me that some mama’s like to wear black yoga pants and a little white cami.  Ok, I had both of those, so I threw on my faded black yogo pants and my old white cami top.  Well, when I got the photos back, I was so disappointed.  I don’t know what I expected, I mean if I wore faded black yoga pants and an old white cami top, the photos will probably look like I’m wearing old faded clothes!  I mean, hello?!  First, I felt like I looked chunky in the photos, and secondly, my clothes look old and not cute at all!  I really did love my baby bump and I was so excited to document that very special moment in time, but I was not dressed for the part.  You know the saying, “Dress for Success.”  I needed to dress for the part of feeling like a hot mama!  Every expecting mama wants to feel beautiful when pictures are taken of their baby bump, so they should be wearing something that makes them feel beautiful also!

So, as a photographer, I have now started to build my “Maternity Wardrobe” in my Atlanta studio for my expecting mamas!  Some mamas have a vision of what they would like to wear and purchase clothes on their own, which is great!  But, for those who don’t have an idea of what looks best for photos, now I have some options for them. 🙂  I like the organic look and feel of neutrals, cotton, lace, and pieces that are flowy.  I like to have options of pieces to show off the bare belly and options to keep the belly covered, but accentuate the cute baby bump.   My collection is small right now, but I will slowly build up to have many options for my beautiful mamas!

This gorgeous mama below is wearing a maternity dress I purchased off of Etsy from Sew Trendy Accessories.  This is the most expensive item I own, but everyone always raves about the look of it and the color also!  Sew Trendy Accessories sells many other options of maternity dresses that are perfect for a maternity photography session, so go check them out!

When you’re wearing something pretty, you can’t help, but just “feel” a little prettier!  And, I know most expecting mamas will want to feel a little “extra” pretty for their maternity session! 🙂
